Units Scale

For the cake

  • 10 large eggs, room temperature
  • 10 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 10 tablespoons semolina
  • 10 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons butter, for the baking pan

For the sweet syrup

  • 4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 lemon, sliced into circles

Instructions

Prepare a 9×13 inch casserole dish or baking pan by greasing it with butter. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

  1. In a large mixing bowl beat the eggs using a hand mixer.
  2. While still mixing, gradually add granulated sugar and continue whipping until a thick batter forms, about 10 minutes.
  3. Stir in the semolina, flour, and baking powder.
  4. Fold in the vanilla extract. Mix until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared dish.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until cooked through. Remove from oven and allow the cake to cool completely.
  7. In the meantime, mix the sugar and water with vanilla extract in a large pan over high heat.
  8. Bring the mixture to a boil and add in the lemon pieces. Cook for 5 minutes, remove from heat.
  9. Once the syrup is lukewarm, pour it the baked cake. Enjoy!
