Patatas Bravas (Spanish Fried Potatoes)

Description

Patatas bravas are a popular Spanish tapas / snack. Learn how to make patatas bravas with this easy and authentic recipe.


Ingredients

  • 56 Russet potatoes, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sweet paprika
  • 2 tablespoons hot paprika
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • Canola or vegetable oil, for frying
  • Fresh parsley, for serving

Instructions

To prepare the bravas sauce

  1. Add olive oil and flour to a large frying pan over medium/medium-high heat. Cook for 3-5 minutes to thicken slightly. Mix in the sweet paprika and the hot paprika, followed by the broth. Continue cooking to thicken mixture to your desired consistency, about 10 minutes.

To prepare the patatas bravas

  1. In a large pot, add vegetable oil and fry the chopped potato chunks over a high-heat. The oil should be around 356 degrees F. Make sure that the potatoes to cook through; the outsides should be golden brown. Carefully remove the fried potatoes from the oil, draining any excess oil on a paper towel. 
  2. In a serving bowl, coat the fried potatoes with the bravas sauce. Garnish with fresh parsley. Enjoy!

PS. Don’t forget to season your potatoes with salt and pepper to your tastes.

Notes

This recipe was made using Russet potatoes, but Yukon Gold are a good substitution as well.
